Director Cesa Pledger
Cesa Pledger is a film director and scriptwriter. Cesa is also a stage and screen actress that can currently be seen in the 2017 American Black Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize winner feature film, BRUCE!!!! and the upcoming feature film, Farewell (2019). Born in Douala, Cameroon, Cesa moved to the US when she was young and spent her adolescence in Manchester, NH. As a child, Cesa always wanted to perform, but took the “safe” route as her parents wished and attended the University of Florida (UF). She holds a bachelor degree in Building Construction and an MBA from UF. Cesa worked as a project manager on major NYC projects such as the New York Times Building and the National September 11th Memorial & Museum. She left her construction career in 2009 to pursue her dream of acting and filmmaking.
Director’s Statement
Hello, Firstly, thank you for providing opportunities to filmmakers like us to showcase their work. Spot: A True Period Piece is a short film which follows a group of female lawyers working at an elite Law Firm who are confronted with the realities of the shame they are dealt surrounding their periods. When they discover proof of the differences in treatment amongst men and women at the firm, they decide to fight back! The film prides itself in comprising of an ethnically inclusive, majority women-identifying cast and an all female crew. From the Director of Photography to the talented Production Assistants, our set epitomized the power of professionalism and sisterhood amongst women filmmakers. We are grateful for the opportunity to present this to the Women’s International Film & Arts Festival Programming team and thank you for your consideration.
