When Akan-anwan, the body-thieving creature from her mother’s folktales comes alive, Little Binta comes face to face with her biggest fear.
As a young girl growing up in Nigeria, the dream to become a filmmaker was nothing but a far away aspiration, something that was impossible to attain. However, because of festivals such as these, women like me have the opportunity to speak up and tell their stories fearlessly. I know what it feels like to not have that voice, and it would be such a indescribable honor to be a part of this powerful movement.
Seventh Moon is a horror short about a little girl, Binta who, when the body-thieving creature from her mother’s folktales comes alive, must face her greatest fear.
The story comes from an experience I had a year ago, when my mother visited from Nigeria after 5 years. I saw, for the first time, her struggle with the aging process- and was confronted with the painful inevitability of her mortality.
I feel that this is a universal experience that everyone can relate with.
