In only its second year, WIFF established itself as a premier international festival and has twice won the New Times award for Best Film Festival in Miami. The inaugural and second-year festival featured world-renowned Golden Globe (American Gangster) and Emmy Award-winning actress and civil rights activist Ruby Dee, who served as WIFF’s Founding honorary chairperson.
Year two resulted in the fabulous Academy Award nominated actress Adriana Barraza, from the film Babel, participating in our festival. Year three included Alley Sheedy (from The Breakfast Club), NAACP Image Award recipient Victoria Rowel (Of Boys and Men, The Distinguished Gentleman, Eve’s Bayou) and international recording artist Lucrecia. In 2010 the beautiful and fabulous Vivica A. Fox premiered her film, “Junkyard Dog” with us.
Over the years, other outstanding actors such as Academy Award Winner Halle Berry, Zoe Saldana, Amy Jo Johnson, Kellita Smith, have been part of WIFF. The sky is the limit for what is in store for year twelve and beyond. The energy and excitement surrounding WIFF are palpable – resulting in over 5000 film submissions throughout the first ten years! Many of which have gone on to be nominated or awarded throughout the world. Be a part of the energy! Be a part of the excitement! Become a member of WIFF!
